Shortlisted for the Kenneth Slessor Prize
Burn ... sings the mood music of our times. From political hypocrisy to the ache of stolen land, disappearing species, to our ‘rubbish stockpiled on the moon’, Hart’s poetry is unflinching in its examination of the Anthropocene and late Capitalism, in all its tragedy. With a linguistic precision that belies the steeliness at the heart of these poems, Hart challenges us to look apocalypse in the eye while reminding the reader of what clings to us and wants to keep us warm.

About Burn
Burn confronts the emotional archaeology of the past and an Anthropocentric present. The collection is a deeply personal and tenacious examination of what it means to live in the world today as we face climate catastrophe. At the heart of Burn is truth-telling and honouring lived experience. With a steadfast gaze, Libby Hart scrutinises power relationships, histories, trauma, vulnerability, strength, consequences and smouldering desires. Burn is a passionate lament that bears witness to what illuminates and what destroys.
