Lepus Print is named after the giorria, or Irish hare (Lepus timidus hibernicus), who make their homes in lowland pastures, coastal grasslands and salt marshes.

About Us

Like the giorria, Lepus Print is at home in open, weathered country.

We are based in the border region, on the coastal peninsula of Maugherow in the northwest of Sligo, where the land is exposed to whatever comes in off the water.

We’re small, we’re particular and we’re in no rush. We’d rather wait for the right manuscript than publish something simply because we can.

We know it takes time, care and alignment to make it all happen.

Our team is especially proud to publish writers who don’t always get a seat at the table. Our authors include Leland Bardwell, Mary Branley, Johnny Gogan, Edwina Guckian, Libby Hart and Brian Leyden.

Lepus Print’s approach to governance reflects the nature of the press itself: small-scale, independent and collaborative.

As an agglomeration of sole traders, we believe good publishing depends not only on the books we bring into the world, but on the relationships and working practices that make them possible.

We work with W&G Baird, a printing company based in Antrim (Northern Ireland) that uses renewable, traceable paper and vegetable-based inks, helping us to make our publishing as sustainable as possible.

We favour An Post for shipments and work with independent and family-run bookshops that support local businesses and small presses.

We are Lepus Print.

We publish books worth waiting for.
